USA Travel Guide

When to go and what not to miss in the USA — New York's energy, the national parks of the West, the theme parks of Orlando, and road trips across a country of extremes.

The United States is really many trips: the skyline and museums of New York, the canyons and parks of the West, the theme-park worlds of Orlando and California, and the neon of Las Vegas. It's a country you sample by region — a city break, a park road trip, a family holiday — rather than in one sweep.

It's easy to travel once you're in, though the entry process needs planning. Here's our short brief.

Best time to go

April – June & September – OctoberSpring and autumn — comfortable in most regions and ideal for the national parks.
July – AugustPeak summer holidays; hot in the south and west, busy at the parks and coasts.
November – MarchWinter — New York at Christmas, warmth in Florida and California, ski season in the Rockies.

Visas & entry

Malaysia is not in the US Visa Waiver Program, so Malaysian travellers generally need a B1/B2 visitor visa, which involves an application and an interview. We guide you through the process and timing — start early.

Practical tips

  • Apply for the US visa well ahead — interview waits vary and can be long; we help you plan around them.
  • Distances and time zones are vast — fly between regions and pick two or three, not ten.
  • Tipping is expected (typically 15–20% in restaurants) and prices exclude tax at the shelf.
  • For national parks, book accommodation early — the good in-park lodges sell out months out.
